Vaaimai Movie Review & Plot:
Vaaimai is a Tamil movie featuring Shanthnu Bhagyaraj and Muktha Bhanu in the lead roles, written and directed by A. Senthil Kumar. The film marks the return of comedian Goundamani, while Ramki, Urvashi, Manoj K. Bharathi, Thyagarajan, and Poornima Bhagyaraj are also part of the film. The Film is said to be inspired from the Hollywood classic 12 Angry Men.
Velan (Prithvi) is sentenced to death for assassinating peace loving politician. His mother (Poornima Bhagyaraj) too meets the same fate as she refuses to open her mouth in her own defense preferring to die the same way similar to her son. The Judge decides that the best thing to do is to bring back the jury system non-existent since the 1950s, either carry the sentence or acquit her. The jury comprises of Ramki an encounter specialist, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj a philosopher, Gowndamani a doctor, Banu a pilot, Oorvashi a millionaire, Manoj K Bharathi a stage actor and writer, Theyagarajan a military man, a chaste Tamil speaking foreigner, Rose a transgender collector, Namo Narayanan a businessman from the slums, Ankitha an IT worker and Venkat a common man. The group have two hours before an execution and start their discussion. There is a fair bit of difference in opinions and what should have been a nail biting rollercoaster ride turns out to be a ride on a road engine. Vaaimai movie with potential cast, is what director A. Senthil Kumar had on his hands but he should have done better. The action sequence is amazing throughout the film and dialogues really good.
Performance & Technicalities:
Shantanu Bhagyaraj, he should try to act naturally. Bhanu is quite convincing as the firebrand pilot but sadly her character underwritten like all the others. Goundamani provides some comic relief with his top brand of satirical comedy, while Urvashi tries to match wits with him. Poornima Bhagyaraj Theyagarajan and Ramki the veterans fall prey to poorly depicted characterizations. Bhagyaraj in his cameo, though little unconvincing as a SP. Manoj K Bharathi follows the Shantanu route in acting. Prithvi has a blink and you miss role and he can consider that a boon judging by the fate of the others who have more screen time. Dialogue Writing is good throughout the movie. All other departments should have done better.
The movie will impress the audience who have an interest in action films and dialogues.
